Mary Smith, Great 100 NurseMary Smith, a senior lecturer in the College of Health and Human Services School of Nursing, recently was selected as a Great 100 Nurse of North Carolina. She will be honored formally at a gala being held in October 2011 in Greensboro, NC.

Smith has more than 30 years of experience practicing in adult health; perioperative, complex care; and nursing education in Philadelphia, Boston and Charlotte.  During her 14-year teaching tenure, Smith has developed simulation clinical exercises for complex illness disease management, has published an article on the subject and has presented at regional and national conferences.

The Great 100 is a grass roots organization whose mission is "to positively impact the image of nursing by recognizing nursing excellence and providing scholarships for nursing education in North Carolina."

Each year, 100 nurses from all areas of nursing practice settings in the state are recognized. The organization solicits nominations to identify deserving nurses “who are making a difference in community and professional settings through their commitment to nursing excellence.”
